Enamelled dishes, accessories, equipment and devices in contact with food
Main requirements that the business user needs to know about
Article 24
Steel sheet or cast iron must be used for producing enamelled dishes, accessories, equipment and devices.
Enamel used for coating surfaces of the dishes, accessories, equipment and devices must not contain easily soluble substances and must be the quality necessary for ensuring durability of the coated surfaces in envisaged intended use.
Surfaces and edges of the enamelled dishes, accessories, equipment and devices must be smooth and glossy, free of bubbles and places in which the enamel coating cracked or fell off.
Article 25
Enamelled surfaces of the dishes, accessories, equipment and devices must be stable against acetic acid, 4% (v/v) during 24 hours at the temperature of 22 ± 2°C. During this test, they must not release more than 50 mg of enamelled, calculated for an area of 1 dm².
Enamelled surfaces of from paragraph 1 of this article standing in acetic acid, 4% (v/v) during 24 hours at the temperature of 22 ± 2°C must not release.
1. for table dishes, equipment and devices whose inner height is less than 25 mm:
a) lead more than 0.8 mg/dm²;
b) cadmium more than 0.07 mg/dm²;
2. for table dishes, equipment and devices whose inner height is greater than 25 mm:
a) lead more than 0.8 mg/L;
b) cadmium more than 0.07 mg/L;
3. for dishes, equipment and devices for cooking and roasting and dishes for storing food, whose inner height is less than 25 mm:
a) lead more than 0.1 mg/dm²;
b) cadmium more than 0.05 mg/dm²;
4. for dishes, equipment and devices for cooking and roasting and dishes for storing food, whose volume is greater than 3 dm3:
a) lead more than 0.4 mg/L;
b) cadmium more than 0.07 mg/L;
Enamelled surfaces of test samples of large containers, parts of the devices and water heaters must not release lead and cadmium under the conditions from paragraph 2 of this article in quantities greater than the allowed quantities from point 3, paragraph 2 of this article.
Release of dyes, lead and cadmium is tested under conditions from paragraph 1 of this article and in the outer edge which comes into contact with the mouth during use, to the height of 20 mm, taken from the top edge of the dishes. When placed in acetic acid, 4% (v/v), for the sample of the dishes being tested, must not exceed:
a) lead more than 2.0 mg;
b) cadmium more than 0.20 mg;
